Crochet, Basics

Learn basic crochet stitches that are the building blocks for all crochet items while making a wearable unique item just for you. You will be learning what each stitch is and how to make it while learning to read a pattern. Don't worry if you have never tried this before, this is the very beginning. For this class, you will need 1 size H or I crochet hook and 1 skein worsted weight yarn. 2 Sessions.

 

Drawing, Beginning

If you've ever caught yourself doodling, you are indeed drawing. Drawing is the oldest form of written communication and is easily a favorite leisure activity. In this class you will explore your creative side as you learn how to set up a good composition using drawing techniques such as shading, contrast, perspective, texture, etc. We'll also be experimenting with different drawing materials so you can see which ones you like the best (or the least). Drawing still lifes and landscapes are only a small part of this class. All supplies will be provided. All you need to bring is your eagerness to learn. Come prepared to enhance your creativity and stimulate your imagination through drawing. This is a beginners class. 2 Sessions.

 

Felted Bowls

In this workshop we'll learn how to make felted bowls using wool and various wet and needle felting techniques. The bowls can then be embellished and students are encouraged to bring various materials to class to use for this (yarn, buttons, beads, etc.). Bring an old towel and scissors. Materials fee: $8, payable to the instructor at the beginning of class. 1 Session.

 

Intermediate Drawing

Students taking this class will learn about more advanced drawing techniques and processes. This class is for those who have some knowledge of basic drawing skills and want to continue exploring this medium. It is not a beginning drawing class. All materials are supplied by the instructor. 3 Sessions.

 

Japanese Shibori Silk Scarves

"Shibori" is the Japanese resist method of creating designs on silk scarves using PVC pipes. This is a unique process of wrapping our scarves around the pipe and watch as our creativity with silk dyes takes over, spilling the color onto the pipe in layer after layer. You will also be given the opportunity to paint directly on your scarves. The science of art and the creativity of the individual unite in this workshop to produce two finished scarves that can be worn with pride or given as gifts. All participants should wear old clothes and bring an old towel to class. Materials fee: $10, payable to the instructor at the beginning of class. 1 Session.

 

Knitting, Beginning

This class is for the beginning knitter or for someone who needs a brush up. You will be working on cast on, garter stitch, knit 2 pearl 2, rib stitch, and knit a stockinette stitch. Most knitting is done using these stitches. Come have some fun while learning this valuable art. For this class you will need size 8 knitting needles and 1 skein worsted weight yarn. 2 Sessions.

 

Mom/Dad and Me Crochet

A fun class to learn to crochet together. You will be learning what each stitch is and how to make it while learning to read a pattern. Some of the projects to choose from are headbands, bracelets, ponytail holders, and more. There will be a demonstration at the end of the class. For this class, you will need 1 size H or I crochet hook and 1 skein worsted weight yarn. 1 Session. $30 for parent & first child, $5 for each additional child.

 

Plant Imprinting on Fabric

Join us as we celebrate the beauty of the world around us. You will learn how to imprint a design on a canvas tote bag using a variety of plant materials. Students are encouraged to bring in favorite flowers from their garden. Just make sure they are kept in water until the workshop. This is a noisy workshop as we'll be using hammers to pound out colors. Bring a hammer (if you have one) and scissors. Materials fee: $8, payable to the instructor at the beginning of class. 1 Session.
