Internet Safety

Free

This class is provided free of charge in partnership between RSU 25 Adult and Community Education and the Maine Digital Inclusion Initiative developed by the National Digital Equity Center. This program deploys teams of AmeriCorps volunteers throughout the state of Maine to provide free computer skills training to the public in community centers, libraries, and adult education facilities. The goal is to promote technology's impact on economic development, workforce education, and older Mainers' aging in place needs.

One of the most important computer classes you can take. Learn tips and strategies to keep you and your family safe online. Computers will be available. You don't need to bring a laptop or purchase software to attend.

Intro to Bezel

In this Intro to Bezel Settings workshop, we'll be creating a bezel setting for a non-calibrated cabochon. You'll start with a cabochon, metal sheet and metal strips, and learn how to use the stone to form the perfect bezel setting for that particular stone. This workshop will use pick soldering and teach a new soldering technique called chip soldering. You'll learn about flux, oxidation, pickle, and more. You'll learn how the metal behaves as it's heating to the correct temperature to accept the solder, how the flux behaves, and what the metal looks like just before the melting point. Materials fee: $50 (payable to the instructor at the beginning of class.) 1 Session

Introduction to Computers

The goal is to target digital literacy barriers in our communities to promote technology's impact on economic develpment, workforce education, and older Mainers' aging in place needs.

If you are new to computers or want to update your skills, this course is for you. Computers will be available. You don't need to bring a laptop or purchase software to attend.

Japanese Shibori Silk Scarves

"Shibori" is the Japanese resist method of creating designs on silk scarves using PVC pipes.  This is a unique process of wrapping our scarves around the pipe and watch as your creativity with silk dyes takes over, spilling color onto the pipe in layer after layer.  You will also be given the opportunity to paint directly on your scarves.  The science of art and the creativity of the individual unite in this workshop to produce two finished scarves that can be worn with pride or given as figts.  All participants should wear old clothes and bring an old towel to class.  Limit to 8 students.  Materials fee: $10, payable to the instructor at the beginning of class.  1 Session.

King's Bucksport Driving School

Taught by a certified Class A driving instructor, this ten class, comprehensive program effectively prepares beginning drivers to receive their driving permit. Program includes 30 hours of classroom instruction and 10 hours of behind the wheel driving instruction, as well as all class handouts, testing materials, Maine Motorist Handbook, and Course Completion Certificate. Provided that all driving hours are completed and permit test passed, permits are issued on last day of class! Most students receive their permits within 30 days. Permit Fee: $35 (payable to the Secretary of State). References available upon request.  Registration fee is payable to King's Bucksport Driving School.  Class is limited to 15 students.  Students must sign up at the Adult Education officce. 

*Please note that Friday class times are 1:30-4:30pm.

Knitting, Beginning

This class is for the beginning knitter or for someone who needs a brush up.  You will be working on cast on, garter stitch, knit 2 pearl 2, rib stitch, and knit a stockinette stitch.  Most knitting is done using these stitches.  Come have some fun while learning this valuable art.  For this class you will need size 8 knitting needles and one skein worsted weight yarn.  2 Sessions.
