CCMA (Certified Clinical Medical Assistant Training Program)

Do you want to prepare for an exciting, challenging and rewarding career in healthcare? We train students to assist physicians by performing functions related to the clinical responsibilities of a medical office. Instruction includes among other things preparing patients for examination and treatment, routine laboratory procedures, diagnostic testing, technical aspects of phlebotomy and the cardiac life cycle. Students will review important topics including phlebotomy, pharmacology, the proper use and administration of medications, taking and documenting vital signs, cardiology including proper lead placements, professional workplace behavior, ethics and the legal aspects of healthcare. Classroom lecture and hands-on labs are integrated with contextualized, concurrent English, Math, technology, and employability skills. Students will have an opportunity for job shadowing and/or externship. Pre-requisite: Healthcare Academy or approval of Director and receive a 244 on the Reading CASAS assesment. Minimum of 4 students required.  Dates and times to be announced.

Phlebotomy Technician

This course prepares students to collect blood specimens from clients for the purpose of laboratory analysis. Students will become familiar with all aspects related to blood collection and develop comprehensive skills to perform venipunctures completely and safely. Classroom and lab work includes terminology, Anatomy and Physiology, blood collection procedures, specimen hands-on practice, and training in skills and techniques to perform puncture methods. To be eligible for the clinical rotation, students must successfully complete the program, submit to a thorough background check, drug screening and meet other requirements. Students will have an opportunity for job shadowing and/or externship. Pre-requisite: Healthcare Academy or Director approval and receive a 244 on the Reading CASAS assessment. Minimum of 4 students required.

Drawing, Beginning

If you've ever caught yourself doodling, you are indeed drawing. Drawing is the oldest form of written communication and is easily a favorite leisure activity. In this class, you will explore your creative side as you learn how to set up a good composition using drawing techniques such as shading, contrast, perspective, texture, etc. We'll also be experimenting with different drawing materials, so you can see which ones you like the best (or the least). Drawing still-lifes and landscapes are only a small part of this class. All supplies will be provided. All you need to bring is your eagerness to learn. Come prepared to enhance your creativity and stimulate your imagination through drawing. This is a beginners class. Materials included in fee.  1 Session.

Yoga

Hatha style yoga with beginners more than welcome. Yoga helps reduce stress, increases flexibility and strength, and also promotes relaxation. A fun class which will increase your energy and leave you with a serene feeling. Students should wear comfortable clothing and bring a mat. 14 Sessions.
